You're planning a 60-person birthday party. Almost everything's sorted, and the hardest thing left to call is the drinks. Two cases of beer, or three? Is one case of white enough, or do you need two? Does this crowd drink a lot or a little? How many drinks per head, on average?
It usually ends all-or-nothing. Either the beer runs dry at a quarter to midnight and someone has to make a panicked run, or you're left with twenty unopened bottles and half a case of bubbly in the storeroom until next summer.
The maths isn't hard — knowing the assumptions is. So Melda built a drink calculator anyone can use.

The drink calculator estimates what to buy for the party: wine, beer, bubbly and spirits, plus soda and sparkling water, ice, glasses and alcohol-free beers. You tell it how many guests are coming, how long the party runs, the occasion, how many of them drink and how hard they go at it. It works out the rest.
How to get started
- Open the drink calculator.
- Pick the occasion and enter the guest count and length of the party.
- Adjust the share who drink, the mood and the drink mix until it fits your crowd.
- Email the list to yourself, or jot it down, and shop without the stress.
A tip: better to buy a touch too much than too little. Unopened, undamaged packaging can usually be returned for a refund, so the surplus rarely goes to waste — just keep the packaging intact (don't bury bottled beer in ice, or leave a wine box, a "belja", somewhere damp).
The calculator is free and open to everyone — you don't even need a Melda event to use it.
